Fabric of Humanity
Something about a year by the sea, having my career mown flat by covid, and confronting an alarmingly clean slate… made me take a good hard look at my future… and I came to the conclusion I needed to be true to myself, to create, to stay close to nature and to try to make a difference in this world.
And as if by some divine intervention, within days of moving back to Melbourne, a friend sent me a link to Fabric of Humanity – a business for sale, which resonated immediately. Certified organic natural dyes, mordants and hand-loomed textiles, a social enterprise providing employment for artisans in rural india… by supplying products suitable for designers, artists and home crafters… I fell in love, and now she’s mine!
Created originally for the rag trade, I’ve spent the last few months diverting her sails towards end consumers – home crafters, home schoolers, lovers of creating beauty on the smallest of scales, whilst keeping the doors open for the wider textiles industry.
Take a look, and over time, I’ll be sharing some of what I’ve learned while delving deep into the world of organic, natural dyes and harnessing this earth’s extraordinary colour.
For now, I’m a tad obsessed with my new hobby…. creating indigo vats and upcycling my wardrobe…
I hope I can inspire you!
