Letting go…
It was a love affair of sorts…. Street Organics began as my way of helping people whose requirements for pure, clean food made it almost impossible to eat away from home. Inspired by my son – who is the embodiment of wellness results achievable when we avoid pesticides, food additives, gluten, dairy & sugar… a child who was expected to be weak & sickly, but who instead was described as ‘disgustingly robust’ by his super cynical paediatrician after I’d jumped on the low-tox bandwagon from birth…
But I digress. Street Organics came into the world when Gryffin was 5 – my 4th ‘child’ in a sense, with charisma, style, a sense of humour and a strong will – just like the other 3.
The team grew ‘organically’ – starting with family members, a couple of friends, then junior staff we trained to do things ‘our way’, staff who became like family… and who helped to elevate ‘our way’ into something unique, wholesome & delicious.
Not a chef or a trained cook amongst us, we were guided by what I’d learnt about nutrition in my studies to help Gryffin, by a love of primo organic ingredients, and a desire to make it all look beautiful – in our own rustic style.
From the packaging to the recycled furniture to the twilight vegan feasts under warm-white fairy lights (never ever blue…!), everything was thought through to create a warm, inviting, home-style environment – ‘chalet-chic’ as someone once described it… a home away from home and not just for us.
But as I’ve heard a few times recently, most cafe proprietors are ready to move on after 2-3 years… because you can get too much of a good thing, especially when that thing runs 7 days a week… and family has to take a back seat…
…and family should never take a back seat, nor should lifestyle or self-care…
So after 6.5 years – a pretty fair innings if you ask me – it was time to hang up the cafe apron to focus on what we did really, really well – and that’s cooking real, wholesome, delicious food for people who don’t have time to do it for themselves.
And so began Organic Provedore, an adventure into broader home delivery and larger scale production… an incredible new business partner, l-i-f-e-b-a-l-a-n-c-e, and so much promise…
*Updated* And then Covid… And things changed again.
And so begins my recipe sharing journey…
And life balance is e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g!
